The Basement Player's Theater Group
OUR STORY
Basement Players began over 30 years ago to raise money for some local churches. It was co-founded by Joyce Griffiths and the late Glendon Kerr.
While its membership was originally United Church based, it is now a community based group. The Theater group evolved from doing variety shows the church put on more than two decades ago, to doing 3 act comedy plays, after Glendon Kerr said he'd like to do one.
Their first play "Too Many Andersons" was so much fun they decided to keep doing plays. Now 28 years later, they do 6 to 12 shows a season, in various locales and have supported a variety of charities since the beginning.
Over the years, many "regular" people have tried their hand at acting. Performers have included retirees, mechanics, hospital staff, real estate agents, customer service reps, addictions counsellors, teachers, waitresses, and labourers, and many more. These people also come from a variety of Kings County Communities, including Hampton, Sussex, Sussex Corner, Penobsquis, Apohaqui, Norton, Belleisle Creek and surrounding areas.
While all the members of Basement Players have a wonderful time performing for you, we are nothing without you, so we hope to see you at one of our upcoming shows!
